28-year veteran litigator in domestic relations law
and criminal defense. Goals if elected: From my own perspective as a legal service provider, one of the greatest
challenges lies in providing equal access to the legal system for all
individuals. The legal needs of many people are not being met, and this is
exacerbated when an individual belongs to a "marginalized" group. Lack of
resources may prevent access, but once access is obtained, a marginalized
individual may then have to contend with systemic prejudice, made all the
worse by its often insidious nature. Each judge, therefore, has the
responsibility to "set the tone" that bias of any sort will not be
tolerated in the courtroom. Practicing law in the field of public interest
throughout my career has enabled me to become more empathetic with others
not as fortunate. As a result, I am deeply committed to equal access and
treatment within the legal system, and would bring such a commitment to the
bench if given that opportunity.
